2010 AFLNT ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

2010 AFLNT ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

On Monday 22 February AFL Northern Territory held the 2010 Annual General Meeting with key constitutional issues on the agenda.

AFLNT Chairman Bob Elix indicated changes to the AFLNT constitution in regard to the appointment of AFLNT Board of Directors and changes to Life Membership section of the constitution.
The following resolutions were passed:
Appointment of AFLNT Board Directors
“13.1 Appointment and Number
(i)The number of Directors on the Board shall be seven (7), appointed by the AFL
a.The AFL shall appoint one of the seven Directors as Chairman
b.The Company may, by ordinary resolution, increase or decrease the number of Directors
It was noted that one board member will be elected from the AFL Executive.”
“AFLNT represents the whole of the Northern Territory that includes the NTFL, 11 affiliate leagues and AFLNT’s push into remote areas, the new process of appointing the Board will accommodate this need,” said Elix.
“This will ensure that all NTFL Clubs and affiliates in the Territory can provide nominations for the AFLNT Board.”
Life Membership
“9.3 Life Members
(c) (i) The Board may by a majority vote of not less than 75% elect as an Honorary Life Member a person who it considers has rendered outstanding service to the Company. Only two Honorary Life Members shall be elected in each Financial Year.
(ii) A person shall become a Player Life Member when that person has played not less than 200 matches. For this purpose “matches” shall mean all official senior matches of the NTFL and matches where the Player has represented the Territory, the NTFL or the Northern Territory Football Club as a player in a senior grade match but excluding a practice, trial or exhibition match.
(iii) A person shall become an Umpire Life Member when that person has officiated as a field, boundary or goal umpire in 200 Games in the NTFL with not less than 10 years service.”
“An anomaly occurred when AFLNT found that Russell Jeffrey was ineligible for Life Membership because he didn’t reach the mandatory requirement of 200 NTFL Games,” advised Elix.
“The change to Player Life Membership is still no less than 200 Games but now includes, representative matches for the NT and Thunder is now included being the pinnacle of Territory football.”
