Yakia takes out Rec Footy honours!

Yakia takes out the Division 1 title of the AFL NT Rec Footy Competition for 2009. With 12 teams competing across 10 weeks it has been a fantastic competition had by all.

The 2009 Recreational Football Season has finished. After playing 3 round robin games, 6 rounds of competition and 2 final matches the teams had one final match on Tuesday night. The Grand final of Division 1 between Yakia and Rusty Boots was played as well as the Division 2 Grand Final between Wharf Rats and 1 More No More.
Yakia and Rusty Boots battled out for the right to claim the Division 1 title. The two sides had clashed previously where Rusty Boots were victories by 13 points. The final was a great game with each team enjoying the match and having a lot of fun, but Yakia ran away 85-34 winners mainly due to their female players who finished with 7 super goals.
In the division 2 Grand Final it was Wharf Rats who took the title in a thriller winning by 4 points over 1 More No More. The match went all the way down to the last second with the ball finishing in the Wharf Rats defensive 3rd. The Division Two competition was even and very enjoyable from the players perspectives.
This year’s competition was played in Great Spirit and every participant enjoyed themselves, each side had at least one victory and most of all everyone got a chance to play a modified version of AFL.
A big thank you to all participants involved in this year Recreational Football and all the people who help run and organize it.
Keep you eye out for next years starting dates! See you then.
