The Taminimin Red Claws were too strong Marrara Christian College in Division 2 of th Quit Now Cup
Taminmin Red Claws vs. Marrara at Marrara Christian College Oval 2/02/09
The Red Claws and Marrara battled it out yesterday for the right to claim the title of the 2009 Quit Now Cup. The first time the two sides clashed it was a hard fought out game with both sides only having limited players and Taminmin eventually running out 8 point victors. This time it was a different story as both sides had a full side and the hungry for the prize.
Taminmin jumped the blocks early kicking three quick goals, while Marrara were left scratching there heads. Once Marrara woke up they looked very dangerous, the quick foot speed of there captain Justin Cooper was giving the Taminmin midfielders head aches. Although Marrara looked Damaging they were unable to reward the hard work, with only 2 scoring shots in the first quarter. At the first change Taminmin took a lead of 19 points with the scores of 4.2 26 to 1.1 7
Eight goals were kicked in the 2nd term with five of the goals kicked by the Marrara lads. Marrara took the lead in the second term, but in the last minuet of the quarter a bit of a melee handed a 50meter penalty to the Red Claws Captain Brett Rice which took him all the way into the goal Square and gave the Red Claws back the lead with a goal, the Red Claws lead by two points at the end of the half.
From the start of the second half until the end of the game Red claws controlled the match eventually running out 41 point victors. Dylan McLachlan was a stand out providing a lot of run and kicking 4 goals for the match, while David Richardson also played a vital role in his side’s victory. For Marrara it was the captain Justin Coope and Jerome Tipuamantamirri who stood out, these two skilful and quick players caused head aches all day but unfortunately it was not enough. But the Best player on ground was the Taminmin captain Brett Rice who led his side from the front, collecting a lot possession and winning the hard ball.
