There are three types of umpires in AFL, each with their own job in the game:

🟢 Field Umpires

Think of these umpires as the game's rule enforcers, much like referees. They follow the action all over the field and make sure everyone plays by the rules. They use the game rules, but they also use their judgment to keep things fair.

🟢 Boundary Umpires

These umpires stay along the sidelines of the field. They decide if the ball goes out of bounds and help get it back into play. They also help the Goal Umpires figure out if a goal or a behind is scored.

🟢 Goal Umpires

These umpires stand between the goalposts at each end of the field. They decide if a team scores a goal or a behind, and they show if by waving flags. They also keep track of the score.
