AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) and the Adelaide Football Club have called time on the three-year partnership that saw it reap two AFLW premierships in the formation years of the NAB AFLW competition.

The partnership also extends to the Northern Territory Football Club (NT Thunder) who compete in the VFLW with a mix of NT-based players, former NT-based AFLW players and Adelaide-based AFLW players, but no changes have been made for the 2019 VFLW season or beyond.

AFLNT CEO Stuart Totham said;

“On the completion of the 2019 AFLW season AFLNT and the Adelaide Football Club mutually decided that given the ever-changing landscape of the women’s game, the time was right to look at other opportunities.

“The three-year partnership we enjoyed with the Crows has no doubt directly contributed to the growth of women’s footy across the NT and the success that our players experienced via two premierships will remain a legacy of the relationship.

“AFLNT will continue to focus on the development of young, aspiring Territory talent

“With the AFLW competition expanding in 2020 we’ve been having some positive discussions with other AFLW clubs and should soon be in a position to announce an exciting new partnership which will continue the pathway for NT talent to get to the elite level, which has underpinned our decisions to-date and remains our key focus.”
