Know a volunteer who deserves a trip to the AFL Grand Final?

Volunteer of the Year is open for 2019

What better way to say thank you to your club’s loyal volunteers than with a trip to the AFL Grand Final?

We all know those devoted club people who are at the footy, week in, week out. They are the ones that bring containers full of quartered oranges, sit at the scorer’s table, have coached the Under 18s team since the players were in Auskick and don the white coat to wave through goal after goal.

You know who we are talking about!

This July, AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) is focusing on our great volunteers. Today the Volunteer of the Year online nominations open, providing you with the opportunity to nominate those extraordinary people involved with your club in the following eight categories:

  • AFL Community Football Volunteer
  • NAB AFL Auskick Volunteer
  • AFL Diversity Ambassador
  • AFL Primary School Ambassador
  • AFL Secondary School Ambassador
  • AFL Disability Inclusion Volunteer
  • AFL Junior Coach
  • AFL Senior Coach

From these nominations, one winner from each category will be selected to go to Melbourne in May 2020 for the AFL State/Territory Volunteer Awards.

At these awards, one nominee from the NT will be crowned the ‘2019 State/Territory National Volunteer of the Year’ and win themselves tickets to the 2020 Toyota AFL Grand Final including flights, accommodation and extras.

AFLNT Manager of Game Development, Emily Wastle encourages everyone to nominate worthy volunteers in their relevant categories.

“The AFL has relaunched the nomination and volunteer program this year so that we get to recognise more than one worthy recipient at a time.

“With all the programs and competitions that we have, it’s fitting that the eight new categories will give more opportunities to more people.

“The event in Melbourne in May next year with all the other volunteer winners from around the country will be great recognition and a way for us to thank the NT community for their continued investment in Territory footy. The AFL grand final prize is a bonus,” she said.
