Barkly League releases 2019 fixture

Barkly Football League 2019

AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) is excited to release an expanded fixture for the 2019 Barkly Australian Football League (BAFL) season.

After both having a year off, Ali Curung and YDU return to the A-grade competition. They join Canteen Creek, Eagles, Elliott and Spitfires to make up a six-team competition.

Please note in early May, Barkly Work Camp was reinstated in the competition and as such the fixture was updated with minimum interruption to clubs. See the updated fixture in the PDF link below.

In the Under 15 competition; Eagles, Spitfires and YDU are all represented to form a three-team competition.
The U15 competition kicks off on Saturday 11 May with the Eagles and Spitfires first-up, whilst A-grade commences on Saturday 25 May with Ali Curung vs Spitfires, YDU vs Elliott and Canteen Creek vs Eagles.

The A-grade competition sees 36 matches played over 14 rounds, and for the first time in the 29-year history of the BAFL, matches are scheduled to be played in Elliott.

Subject to inspections prior, the new Elliott Oval will play host to two matches late in the season. In Round 11, Elliott Hawks are scheduled to host YDU on Sunday 4 August and Round 14 will see the Hawks host the Eagles on Sunday 25 August.

Fans only have to wait until Round 4 on June 15 to see the grand final rematch between Eagles and Elliott. The weekend of 3 – 4 August is the NO MORE feature round where teams will link arms pre-match to make a stand against violence in our communities.

Finals action starts on Saturday 31 August with the A-grade semi-finals and culminates with Grand Final Day on Saturday 14 September.

AFLNT Regional Development Manager for Barkly, Wayne Green said he has been busy engaging with clubs in the lead up to the season and has been working with all clubs around improving their governance structure.

“We are really looking forward to 2019 with the return of Ali Curung and YDU. The two matches scheduled to be played in Elliott will definitely be a highlight, so hopefully the ground will be ready to go.

"With the six A-grade teams this year, there's an extra six matches over the course of the season so more opportunity for more players,” he said.
