The U16 NT Thunder Men’s Academy Camp is being held in Darwin this weekend, out of which a team will be selected to represent the Northern Territory in Round 1 of the 2018 National U16 Championships.

The camp is from Friday 1 June – Sunday 3 June and has attracted players from right across the Territory.

Kyrell Barton and Lachlan Dunemann hail from Tennant Creek, while Robbie Campbell and Lachlan McFarlane are from Katherine.

The CAFL has strong representation with Deacon Braun, Frances Bruce, Copeland Ford, Reggie Gallagher, Jamal Lynch and Josiah Munster all making the trip from Alice Springs.

From the Tiwi Islands are John and Stanley Tipiloura, and the sole representative from the Barkly region is Jamal Lynch.

At 2pm on Saturday 2 June the NT side will play a game against Prembroke High School on TIO Oval 2 as part of the camp.

The 2018 NAB National U16 Championships consists of three rounds and the NT’s upcoming opponents are; NSW/ACT, Tasmania and Queensland.

The NT team selected from the camp will take on NSW/ACT in Blacktown, Sydney next week.

During the camp this weekend players will be tested to National AFL Combine standards, including a 20-metre sprint, vertical jump, agility just to name a few.

AFLNT Manager of Talent and Pathways, Wally Gallio said he’s keen to see who will make the Northern Territory team for Round 1.

“We have a talented pool of youngsters fighting for their respective spots and this camp allows them to showcase why we should select them.

“The game against Prembroke High School on Saturday will be a great opportunity for the players to impress this year’s selectors in a game day scenario,” Gallio explained.
