Central Australia Football League acknowledged for achievements in Action Against Domestic Violence

At the 2016 NT Sports Awards held at the Alice Springs Convention Centre on Saturday, the Central Australia Football League (CAFL) was recognised for its continued support and work it does in supporting the ‘No More’ domestic violence campaign.
In front of nearly 200 of the Northern Territory’s best sporting people, the NT Government rewarded the CAFL with the Action Against Domestic Violence Award inductee status.

AFLNT Regional Manager for Central Australia, Andy Hood, said he was proud that footy was acknowledged for the role it plays in raising awareness of domestic violence in the community.
“It’s important that we try to play our part through the game that lots of people play in the Northern Territory.

We are proud to be assisting with delivering this important message,” Hood said.

Over the past 12 months the AFLNT team in Central Australia has been working with the five TIO CAFL Premier League clubs and GOODSPORTS Division 1 and 2 community clubs to help facilitate the creation and signing of a Domestic Violence Action Plan.

The CAFL also uses the symbolic linking of players’ arms at its big football games to deliver the ‘No More’ message.

In other AFLNT news, NEAFL representative side the Northern Territory Thunder was awarded NT Team of the Year, just recognition for their 2015 NEAFL Premiership.

Coach Xavier Clarke was also rewarded for his tireless work at the helm and announced as the Carlton & United Breweries – Eric Johnston Coach of the Year.
