AFL NORTHERN TERRITORY HALL OF FAME

Tonight, 25 of the Northern Territory’s greatest footballing heroes will be forever enshrined in glory when they are inducted into the AFL Northern Territory Hall of Fame at the Holiday Inn Esplanade Darwin.

“The inaugural list of 25 is comprised of 19 inductees and 6 legends of the game that have contributed over and above to the game. The AFLNT Hall of Fame was established to ensure these names are not forgotten and are remembered for years and generations to come,” said AFLNT Hall of Fame committee Chairman Bryan Moroney.
The six legends that were inducted into the AFLNT Hall of Fame were, Michael Long, Darryl White, Bill Dempsey, Michael McLean, Maurice Rioli and David Kantilla.

“We have had to recognize this distinct set of individuals as their name immediately springs to mind when talking NT Football. Their exploits and achievements, on and off the field have put the Territory on the map when it comes to AFL football,” said Moroney.
Presenting partner Thrifty Car Rental, Darwin are long time supporters of sport in the Northern Territory and were thrilled with the success of the event.
“It was fantastic to see the stalwarts of NT football on show and to be directly involved in being able to recognize and permanently enshrine these people in footballing history provides Thrifty Car Rental, Darwin a great deal of pleasure,” said NT Group CEO of Thrifty Car Rental Rick Paul.
“Whilst we can only induct 25 names in the first year and there may be some that may have missed out this time, I believe our inaugural inductees are a perfect fit,” said Moroney.

“If someone you know didn’t make it this time and you think is deserved of this honour then we encourage all Territorians to nominate their chosen person when we open nominations again in the new year.”
