The surname ‘Long’ is a name that football fans throughout the Territory and beyond revere.

The brother of AFL icon and AFLNT Hall of Fame Legend Michael Long, Noel is a Territory football great, a man whose football achievements are endless, a man whose talent, skill and passion for game have earned him the respect of players and fans alike.

Noel played 17 glorious seasons of league football in the Northern Territory and along the way won an astonishing 11 Premierships with St Mary’s;

Noel Long also enjoyed a stellar representative career, proudly representing the Territory a remarkable eleven times. He played against Alice Springs in 1984, Glenelg in 1985 , the Sydney Swans in 1987 , North Melbourne in 1988 , Essendon in 1989 and 1990 , Port Adelaide in 1989 , St Kilda in 1990 , Hawthorn in 1991, Geelong in 1992 and Melbourne in 1993. Few men have represented the Territory with the fierce determination and commitment to the guernsey displayed by Noel Long.

Noel won the St Marys Best & Fairest three times, in 1989/90, 1991/92 and 1992/93 a year that saw him also win the prestigious Nichols Medal.

Noel Long proved to be a man for the biggest occasion, and cometh the hour, cometh the man, his performances in Grand Final’s are still talked about today.

He is a three time Chaney Medallist having been judged best on ground in the NTFL Grand final in 1989/90, 1994/95 and again 1995/96, the year he was also club captain. Noel Longs three Chaney medals stand as testament to his footballing talent.

Noel also played league football with West Torrens in the SANFL and three games for East Perth in the WAFL before injury prevented him playing more games in both states.

Noel played in the NTFA for two seasons winning the NTFA’s Best & Fairest in 1998/99 playing for Tracy Village.

Noel made a comeback with St Marys in 1999/00 season and proved that he still had the magic touch that made him the champion he is.

Noel Long is a Life Member of the NTFL and a Life Member of St Marys Football Club.

He played a total of 216 games sensational games and was named on the wing in the ‘Back to Cyclone Tracy Team of Two Decades’.

We are both honoured and privileged to welcome Noel Long, a true champion, and a true Territory football great, into the AFLNT Hall of Fame.
