The famous Nightcliff Football Club was originally formed as the Works and Housing Football Club in 1950 and it was four years later in 1954 that a 16 year old named Bennie Lew Fatt, the son of Darwin Buffaloes champion and AFLNT Hall of Fame inductee Walter Lew Fatt, started his playing career at the club.

Bennie Lew Fatt’s remarkable playing career spanned from 1954 to 1968 and saw him become both a Tigers champion and a genuine great of Northern Territory football.

Bennie Lew Fatt was Nightcliff Tigers leading goal kicker in 1960-61 and 1965-66 and despite being in the losing side he booted an extraordinary 8 goals in the 1965-66 NTFL Grand Final.

He was a key member of the Nightcliff Tigers Premiership winning teams of 1956-57, 1960-61, and 1964-65.

He won the Nightcliff Tigers Best & Fairest 1963-64 and also won the Northern Territory’s most coveted individual sporting award, the Nichols medal, that same year.

Benny’s beloved Tigers acknowledged his contribution to the club’s success by awarding him Life Membership in 1967 and he was also awarded NTFL Player Life Membership in 1986.

A Tiger through and through he also coached the club’s colts, passing on his wisdom and knowledge to a new generation of Tigers.

It is fitting that a man who gave his all in each and every game for the club he loved and served so well, assumes his rightful place alongside his father Walter, in the AFLNT Hall of Fame.
