Stafford and Harnischfeger crowned with TIO CAFL top honours

Minahan

South’s prolific goalkicker Daniel Stafford has won the Minahan Medal for the second time, while West’s Jessica Harnischfeger has secured the prestigious Margaret Liddle Medal.

Stafford, who previously shared the Minahan Medal with Toshie Kurnoth in 2018, earned 16 votes this season with his outstanding performance as a forward. His contribution played a key role in South’s impressive campaign, culminating in a second-place finish after eight wins in the home-and-away season.

Harnischfeger delivered a stellar performance for West, scoring 13 goals in 13 matches and earning 16 votes for her efforts. Her remarkable season was instrumental in West's strong finish, securing second place on the ladder with nine victories.

CAFL representative field umpire Alex Reardon was honoured with the KFC Golden Whistle, recognising him as the top-performing umpire of the season.

The future stars of the TIO CAFL were also highlighted, with Cazalys NT Talent Academy’s Tyreece Forbes receiving the Kev Prior Rising Star Award, and Bella Foster, who captained the CAFL Women’s Under 23s, named the Women’s Rising Star.

AFL Northern Territory would like to congratulate all the award winners.

ABOUT MONA MINAHAN

Mona Minahan was a leading businesswoman in the Northern Territory's hotel industry when she arrived in Alice Springs in 1932. In 1947, she donated a medal to the Central Australian Football League (CAFL), which has since been awarded to the fairest and most brilliant player in the competition, as determined by the umpires.

From 1949 to 1980, the Mail Medal was awarded based on umpire votes, while the Minahan Medal was decided by spectator votes. In 1981, the Minahan Medal returned to being awarded by the umpires.

In recognition of her contributions, Mona's Lounge at TIO Traeger Park is named in her honour.
