2024 SunCable BAFL Senior Men’s Round Seven Recap

RD7 BAFL

Round seven of the 2024 SunCable Barkly Australian Football League saw the men’s division in action as the women’s had a bye.

The Spitfires overcame the Barkly Work Camp (BWC) in a strong second half, as goals went begging for BWC.

The Spitfires had their work cut out for them early, as they went into the first break down by 8-points, before a swift turnaround to lead by nine at the main break. However, concerns rose as BWC had kicked three goals, 12 behinds in the first half and the concerns rang true as Spitfires galloped away with six goals, to just one for BWC in the third.

Spitfires took home the win comfortably by 27 points, but the result could have fallen the other way as BWC’s final scoreline was eight goals, 17 behinds.

Spitfires vice-captain Lachlan Dunemann was spectacular, alongside Faron James, and Andrew Peckham were covering the ground in leaps and bounds.

However, BWC’s Jonathon Club kicked three goals with a standout performance alongside Clayton Palmer.

Elliott took home a good win in a low-scoring affair by 23 points as both sides engaged in an arm wrestle.

At no point in the match, did Elliott find themselves too far ahead of Ali Curung, as the fight from the Kangaroos kept them in the match.

Elliott’s Patrick Campbell was a beast on the day as Lane Jackson’s three goals, and Kurt Raymond’s two. For Ali Curung, Nicky Poulson continues to have an incredibly strong season alongside Asten Ross, who has lifted in the last couple of weeks.

YDU and Epenarra again had a low-scoring clash with YDU taking home the 25-point win in the end.

YDU’s Clayton Hayes was influential, finding himself involved in nearly all passages of play with Lyndon Chungaloo and Lemiah Brown both participating on both sides of the ball. Telvan Clegg and Rico Billy-Joe caused the damage on the scoreboard with two goals apiece.

For the Saints, Azariah Philomac worked hard, throwing his body at the contest as Lindsay Turner, who has been one the competition’s best this year, kicked two goals.
