Morris' Match Report - 2022 Cazalys Women's Representative Game

Report

WOMEN'S football in the Top End of Australia got another boost this week when the NT representative side beat SANFL side Woodville-West Torrens by 78 points.

Forward-ruckman Molly Althouse won the best on ground medal after four quarters of tough, consistent football that produced a goal, three goal assists and a physical presence the Adelaide club could not match.

NT coach Jarred Ilett tasted his first success at representative level as an off-field mentor and liked what he saw from his players.

"We put the fact we didn't want to be making up the numbers on the table from day one and the girls responded to that,'' Ilett told the AFLNT website.

"The pressure was sensational today and we wanted it to be smart pressure by being aggressive and we translated that into being 'mongrel' and we celebrate the team stuff and it call came together."

The Territory's pressure around the ball forced the SANFL side into a series of hurried disposals in the first quarter.

That meant the home side had the lion's share of possession and forward entries, enough to secure a 20-point lead at the first change.

Goals to Isabelle Porter, Aggie Singh from a Molly Althouse assist and a set shot from Lisa Miceli had the Buffaloes in charge.

Althouse was the creator up forward where her physicality and ability to bring teammates into play with a clever kick or clean handpass that created space and several scoring opportunities.

The Eagles found their wings in the second quarter, attacking the football a lot harder and using it a lot better when space that wasn't there in the early stages began to open up.

Charlotte Dolan down back, Shineah Goody through the middle and Renee Forth around the ground worked hard for their side despite a rising points deficit on the scoreboard.

The home side had too many options around the ball and up forward, combined with an airtight defence that choked several forward thrusts by the SANFL side.

Jesse Brock's work in the ruck, Jnoemi Anderson across half forward, Eliza Shannon around the ground and Eliza Morrison were other good contributors for the Buffaloes.
