2024 SunCable BRFL Senior Men’s and Women’s Grand Finals Locked in

BRFL GF

The 2024 SunCable Big Rivers Football League (BRFL) Grand Finals have been locked in.

Eastside secured their place in the Grand Final with a commanding performance in the second half of their preliminary final clash. The first half was a tight contest, epitomizing the essence of a high-stakes match. The Camels managed a slender one-point advantage at the break, with only a single goal scored throughout the half.

The turning point came in the third term, where Eastside began to assert their dominance. They broke the game open with a flurry of three goals, establishing a 13-point lead at the final change. Eastside continued their momentum into the last quarter, adding two more goals to seal a 13-point victory and dash the Camels' premiership hopes.

Eastside's success was driven by standout performances from captain Kaleishia Ross, vice-captain Lee-Shay Gillett, Jayde De La Coeur, and Charlee Byers. For the Camels, Captain Sarah Assmus and Grace Senior delivered notable performances but ultimately fell short.

In a heart-stopping finish, Ngukurr earned their spot in the Grand Final with a dramatic last-minute goal from Nico Farrell. Arnhem Crows started strong, establishing an 11-point lead at quarter-time. However, Ngukurr turned the tide in the second term, gaining a 35 to 33 lead by halftime after a 26-point turnaround.

Arnhem regained control in the third quarter, holding a five-point advantage heading into the final term. Ngukurr faced a daunting challenge when Arnhem's Cassien Sambono kicked the first goal of the last quarter, seeming to tilt the game in Arnhem’s favour.

Ngukurr's fortunes shifted as Wayne Campbell and Tysaac Farrell contributed crucial goals. With time running out, Nico Farrell emerged as the hero, scoring the match-winning goal in the dying seconds to secure a two-point victory.

Ngukurr’s captain, Kurtley Silver, rose to the occasion, but it was Farrell’s three-goal performance, including the decisive final kick, that stole the spotlight. Arnhem's Braun Bush, Cassien Sambono, and Traven Shields were also impressive, each contributing two goals, but it was not enough to stave off the dramatic late rally by Ngukurr.
