BRFL

The final home and away round of the 2024 SunCable Big Rivers Football League played out with the first round of finals locked in.

Camels claimed a crucial victory at Tindal Oval, causing the Arnhem Crows to relinquish their top spot on the ladder, while the Katherine South and Eastside game unfortunately resulted in a forfeit.

The Arnhem Crows faced early challenges, reflected in their halftime score of one goal and eight behinds, which fell short of securing them a lead. Despite the Crows' opportunities, Camel's captain Sarah Assmus played a pivotal role in maintaining her team's composure.

Despite being undermanned, the Crows struggled with their kicking accuracy throughout the game, allowing the Camels to secure a 28-point victory.

In the men’s competition, Ngukurr delivered a commanding performance, while the Camels emerged victorious against the Crows. Regrettably, the Garrak Bombers and Eastside match ended in a forfeiture.

Ngukurr proved unstoppable, led by Tom Farrell who dominated possession and contributed four goals. However, the top scorer of the match was Kealyn Kelly, who had a stellar day with six goals, supported by Dean Daniels and Mikael Collins each adding four goals.

For Gurindji, the match was more than just a game; it was an opportunity to enjoy themselves, knowing they won't be participating in the finals.

The Camels dominated the Crows following an explosive second quarter that appeared to seal the game in their favor.

Led by William Robinson, the 2023 Doug Kelly Medallist, the Camels surged ahead with a commanding 31-point to two-point advantage in the second term, leaving the Crows with a daunting 35-point deficit to overcome.

Brock Reynolds and Harry McKimmie orchestrated the Camels' attack, delivering precision passes to Josh Carlin, who netted three goals, and Tristan Warner, who contributed four goals.

Despite the tough outing for the Crows, captain Shanton Ladd displayed courage throughout the contest, while Henry White managed to score two goals in their effort.
