The Darwin Buffettes continued their resurgence when they beat Southern Districts in Sunday's Round 6 game at Cazaly's Arena.
The Buffettes' 12.8 (80) to 3.1 (19) win over the quick-learning Lady Crocodiles, was the Double Blues' fourth in a row since falling victim to reigning premier PINT in the opening round.
Coach Melinda Taylor called for a greater emphasis on teamwork despite the 10-goal win, saying there were areas her side needed to lift with games against top five contenders Nightcliff, Waratah, St Mary's, and PINT to come in the next month,
"We've got to get better with harder games coming up, this time we were down a couple of rotations and it was hot, but there are no excuses, we need to get our teamwork a little bit better,'' she said.
Molly Althouse in a ruck-midfield role was back to her very best, while Stephanie Williams and Sophia Mauboy were other four-quarter performers in the win.
Districts coach Peter Lake found some positives despite the loss, including the last quarter when his young side showed a lot of heart by kicking two goals to their opponents.
"The girls are improving each week, it's just a matter now of concentrating on the task at hand and playing four quarters,'' he said.
"We've got five 16-year-olds in the side, but that's no excuse, the players have set themselves some goals and we're aiming to get there.''
Nightcliff won its third game in a row by beating Palmerston by 41 points in their clash at Darwin Mazda Nightcliff Oval.
The Tigers kicked away from the Magpies in the last term after a closely contested first three quarters to stay third on the WPL ladder with their 10.7 (67) to 4.2 (26) win.
Maighan Fogas and the consistent Georgia Johnson were Nightcliff's best as they turned a 16-point advantage at the last change into a seven-goal win.
Palmerston coach Matt Rea said Nightcliff's bigger bodies had told in the end, in a game where his players competed hard at every contest for the first three quarters.
"They got away from us in the end, Nightcliff's a good side and are very good in contests where the ball has to be won,'' Rea said.
Waratah had nine goalkickers in its 125-point win over the Tiwi Bombers in the match played at TIO Stadium instead of Bathurst Island because of the poor state of the oval at Wurrumiyanga.
Naomi Celebre sealed her best-on-ground performance with four goals and three other players booting three majors in an all-around team performance.
The red and whites moved to fourth on the ladder after keeping the Tiwi women goalless and booting 18 themselves, replacing Palmerston in the top five.
The unbeaten PINT beat Wanderers by 213 points in their game at Darwin's cricket headquarters, DXC Arena.
The Queenants fielded 14 players instead of the maximum 16 against the winless Eagles, but still had too much class and skill for their enthusiastic but inexperienced opponents.
Carly Remmos through the midfield picked up a lot of important possessions for the unbeaten PINT, who have begun their premiership defence with six straight wins.
Jasmyn Hewett in her return from a hand injury was superb in the ruck and around the ground, while the consistent Steph Lawrence booted six goals at full forward.
"It's a good start (winning six-in-a-row) and now with the bye, we can have a look at any injuries we've got,'' coach Rick Nolan said.
