2020/21 TIO NTFL MRP – Round 13

AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) wishes to advise the Match Review Panel (MRP) has reviewed all matches played in Round 13 of the 2020/21 TIO NTFL season, and the following charges have been laid:

Bradley Stokes of Darwin Buffaloes Football Club has been charged with striking player number 11 from Nightcliff Football Club in the second quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Premier League match between Darwin Buffaloes and Nightcliff at TIO Stadium on Saturday 9 January 2021.

Based on the evidence available, it was the view of the MRP that the incident should be classified as intentional conduct, low impact and high contact, resulting in a two-match penalty.

In summary, Stokes can accept a one-match penalty with an early guilty plea.

Michael Coombes of Darwin Buffaloes Football Club has been charged with striking player number 11 of Nightcliff Football Club in the second quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Premier League match between Darwin Buffaloes and Nightcliff at TIO Stadium on Saturday 9 January 2021.

Based on the evidence available, it was the view of the MRP that the incident should be classified as intentional conduct, high impact and high contact, resulting in a four-match penalty.

In summary, Coombes can accept a three-match penalty with an early guilty plea.

Russell Davey of Palmerston Magpies Football Club has been charged with  making forceful contact on player number 27 from St Mary’s Football Club in the first quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Premier League match between Palmerston Magpies and St Mary’s at Cazalys Arena on Saturday 9 January 2021.

Based on the evidence available, it was the view of the MRP that the incident should be classified as intentional conduct, high impact and high contact, resulting in a four-match penalty.

In summary, Davey can accept a three-match penalty with an early guilty plea.

Men’s Division 1

PINT Football Club and Nightcliff Football Club have been charged with engaging in a melee in the third quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Division 1 match between PINT and Nightcliff at TIO Stadium on Saturday 9 January 2021.

In summary, both sides can accept a fine with an early guilty plea.

Under 18 Girls

David Evans, club goal umpire for Southern Districts Football Club has been charged with using abusive, insulting, threatening or obscene language towards an umpire in the fourth quarter of the TIO NTFL Under 18 Girls match between Wanderers Football Club and Southern Districts at TIO Oval 2 on Friday 8 January 2021.

Based on the evidence available, it was the view of the MRP that the language Evans is alleged to have used is in-line with the Auditory Offences matrix (Appendix 9) that is part of the AFLNT Rules and Regulations (2020-21 edition) and should be classified as medium, meaning the comment could be heard 10-50 metres away, while the conduct was rated as insulting. This has resulted in a two-match penalty.

In summary, Evans can accept a one-match penalty with an early guilty plea.

*UPDATED Wednesday 28 October morning*

The Tribunal will sit tonight with Bradley Stokes choosing to contest his charge.

Michael Coombes, Russell Davey, and David Evans have accepted the early guilty plea option.
