The worldwide men’s health awareness campaign Movember kicks off this coming Monday, and in celebration of the month of Mos to come the charity is givingTIO Stadium one of its own.
AFLNT, in conjunction Movember, have come up with a unique way to raise awareness for men’s health in the Northern Territory by affixing a giant Mo to the scoreboard to sit strong and proud for the whole month.
“The scoreboard at TIO Stadium will undertake a new look as of Friday 29th October by growing a moustache for Movember,” said Mo Bro Josh Gardiner from Movember.
“We couldn’t be happier in seeing the folk of Darwin and the Northern Territory getting behind us again so enthusiastically. Registration numbers are looking great and we hope this new addition to the stadium really encourages the community to get signed up and donating. The more people on board, the more funds and awareness we can raise for the Prostate Cancer Foundation, beyondblue: the national depression initiative and the Movember Foundation.”
Local construction contractors ISIS and FOX UNITED NT will be on hand to ensure the safe installation of a giant moustache to beneath the Scoreboard at TIO Stadium.
“We are pleased to support this fantastic cause, a lot of our workforce is male and we need to ensure that they are all looking after themselves and with us supporting this we hope we can source change in some men,” said ISIS NT General Manager Daniel Morgan.
AFLNT are pleased to support another one of their community partners beyondblue through this initiative.
“We urge all our patrons male or female to support this great cause as a Mo Bro or Mo Sista,” said AFLNT CEO Tony Frawley.“As the peak body one of our main charters is healthy lifestyles of our participants. This is just one way we can do this to ensure that our players, supporters and members are aware of the various risks and health issues they may face in their lifetime.
“We see involvement in football and physical activity as an integral part of promoting the men’s health message.”
The 10m x 2m giant moustache will remain in place for the month of Movember and for all subsequent football matches over the course of the month and be viewed by all patrons that visit the football every weekend.
“Movember and AFLNT would also like to thank the NT Government for the safe keeping of the Mo at Parliament House for the past year so that this tradition in the NT can be continued,” said Mo Bro Gardiner.
