The Development of Skills and Knowledge in the Umpiring Academy

The academy continues to assist junior umpires develop their individual skills. This has been done by holding regular training sessions in preparation for the AFLNT Talent and School Sport NT Programs representative season. This includes events such as AFL Kickstart U/15 Country Championships, U/18 & U/16 Territory Thunder trials games, U/15 SSNT Championships and U/12 SSNT Exchange. The junior umpires also endure skill sessions, fitness testing including a 4km time trail, video, theory and recovery sessions, goal setting, nutritional and health talks and attend AFL Umpires guest speeches as a part of their development in the Umpiring Academy.

Sharing Expert Knowledge

Each year we invite Northern Territory umpiring coaches who are involved in the National AFL Umpiring Coach PD Program to share and pass on their knowledge and expertise to the Academy Umpires at events like the SSNT u/15 Championships.
