Invest in the future stars of the AFL. Local territory grown AFL stars are being reared through the AFL Northern Territory State Academy system. Through this the teams for the NAB U16 and U18 National Championship teams will be selected.

The support of player sponsors enable the athletes to concentrate on giving themselves the best chance of making it in the big time and to perform on the stage that counts during the National Championship carnvials held later this year.

For more information on how you can support these young athletes please click on the image to the right to download the Player Sponsorship flyer.

Alternatively larger donations or sponsorships can be tailored to suit your business needs. Please contact AFLNT Commercial Operations department on 08 8980 4802 for further information.

Scotch College visit the Top end

Students from Melbourne’s famous Scotch College visited Darwin last week on their biennial tour of the top end. The Year 10 & 11 students played three games against NT opposition. Two games against the Top End Lightning Academy development squad on Wednesday and Saturday with a game at Tiwi College on Friday against the Tiwi "Baby Bombers".

While the Collegians enjoyed their time in the Territory it also provided the Thunder U18’s staff with a valuable opportunity to assess the Darwin based players in their squad over the two games.

AFLNT’s Talent and Coaching Manager, Jarrod Chipperfield said "It was fantastic that Scotch would visit the top end at this time of the year. It gave us an excellent opportunity to put some of the players trying out for our U18’s squad under the microscope"

"After Wednesday’s game we promoted four players to play in the Thunder intraclub match on Saturday which gave us a chance to see them exposed to a higher level of intensity, which they came through with flying colours. We are really confident we’ll have a strong U18’s Thunder squad this season" he added

The following list of players from within the NTFL have been invited to trial for the U18 AFL Academy.

Training will take place at TIO Stadium on the #2 oval from the 1st of March with two trial matches against a touring team from Melbourne’s Scotch College before the final squad is selected.

Some players originally selected were no longer available to trial for the squad & some other players have been added.

Satellite training squads will run in Katherine, Alice Springs & the Tiwi Islands for those players selected in the Academy who do not reside in Darwin.

Several other players identified for the Academy are training with the NT Thunder senior team, under the direction of Head Coach, Murray Davis. Much of the U18 Academy program will focus on skill development until after the NTFL Grand Final.
