Navy National Womens Team take on Tiwi Womens Team
On 15 July 2010 a representative women’s AFL team from the Royal Australian Navy paid a visit to the community of Bathurst on the Tiwi Islands, to take on the famed talented Tiwi Women in an exhibition game.
After a 5 1/2 hr barge ride the Navy team were ushered in for a quick bite to eat and then straight onto the field.
The atmosphere was great and all lthe girls were excited and looking forward to the game.
The bigger bodies of the Navy side failed to dominate as the quick and skilled Tiwi girls were able to break into space and dominate the scoreboard.
Played with great spirit and fun it was an awesome experience to see the talent on show. All Australian Natasha Puautjimi was dominate through the midfield Captain Loretta Cook and Jaime Lee also showing they had some freakish skill.
The Navy Women were blown away by fun they had and experience of going to Tiwi. Captain Natasha Wilson said "it was one of teh best games she had played in". Amazing level of skill considering half the girls do not play in regular competition or train.
